Expat Club wants to positively contribute to the lives of expats in Brussels and to the wider local community. We often organise events that you would probably not do on your own, not in the least place because you may not speak Flemish or French. This event is one of them! Learn what to do in an emergency situation or in case there is an accident in and around the house.
Imagine if something happened to a member of your family or a colleague: would you know what to do? What should you do when a child, your spouse or a friend becomes badly wounded. Can you take care of it yourself? And would you know when to call a doctor, visit a hospital or call an ambulance? During this 3-hours course you will learn what you can do yourself, and when you should get professional help.
We believe it is very important for people to be able to help one another.  As such Expat Club will host official Red Cross training sessions to teach our members the skills they need to be able to help others if necessary.  With the Belgian Red Cross-Flanders, you are guaranteed expertise and experience. During this first session you will learn the basics of first-aid. Upon successful completion of the examination, a statutory certificate of competence will be issued. Please note that you will NOT learn the CPR-technique. For that we organise a separate course (coincidentally on the same date).
About the Red Cross Flanders
“We are an independent volunteer organisation. Under the umbrella of the Belgian Red Cross, we are part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Our mission is threefold: to defend the interests of vulnerable people both at home and abroad, to be proactive in emergency-management, promoting self-reliance and organising blood supply, and to care for vulnerable individuals. In all our activities, we rely heavily on volunteers.” (source: Red Cross Flanders website)
Who can join?
The minimum age for this event is 18 years. You are not required to have any previous knowledge or skills, but we do advise you to also follow the First Aid course that Expat Club regularly offers. Expat Club Membership is not required to join this training.
Location
We are meeting in the Expat Club offices in The Louise Center on Avenue Louise 279. You are welcome from 18h30, but we actually start at 19h00. Trams 93 and 94, bus 38 and 60, Vleurgat/Louise stop. And just a 5-8 minutes walking from tram 7 and 81, and bus 54 if you get off at Avenue Louise. The entrance is right across the tram stop.
We advise you to eat something beforehand, there are various quick restaurants on Louise and Vleurgat. We do offer coffee/tea, drinks and snacks (waffles, chocolate bars) during the event, but this is not a substitute for diner.
