Meeting time 17h15 at Place Schuman (or a bit later at other points).

The Alsace region in Eastern France is beyond picture-postcard perfect. Situated between Strasbourg and Mulhouse, and against the backdrop of the Vosges Mountains, where Expat Club goes skiing several times per year, it is known for its idyllic villages with half-timbered houses and flower-laden windowsills, lovely market squares and typical local restaurants that serve the delicious choucroute dishes. During this trip we visit Colmar with a local guide, who will also takes us to various places along the world-famous Alsace Wine Route. We visit several towns, including Eguisheim and Riquewehr, but also ascend to the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle from where you will have a breathtaking panoramic view over the region and can see the German Black Forest in the distance. Needless to say a visit to one of the many local vineyards is included, so you can taste and select the best Riesling or Gewürztraminer, or one of the several other wine varieties produced in this region.

This trip departs on Friday evening at 17h00 (earliest), so you won’t have to take a day off from work. We stay in a very good 4* hotel in the Alsace (breakfast included), and return home on Sunday evening around 21h00.

Wine Route

The Alsace is most famous for its high quality wine production. There are numerous great vineyards spread out over a large area. Combined with the scenery and idyllic villages, the 170-km long Alsace Wine Route takes visitors along the most important and beautiful places in the Alsace. During our trip we drive by a large part of this world-famous track. We do so on both Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

During this trip we at least visit the stunning little towns of Eguisheim and Riquewhere, but time permitted we may also stop in other villages, such as Kaiserburg and Obernai. Along the way, our guide will tell us more about the wine production, the history of the Alsace and the people who live here. Needless to say we also plan a visit to a winery, so for the wine lovers, rest assured you will have the chance to try out different varieties of wine. And of course you are more than invited to bring along as many bottles back to Brussels as you like. There is space enough in the bus!

To complement our trip, we have decided to include a nice dinner on Saturday evening and a lunch on Sunday afternoon (one drink included). During the reservation process you can indicate whether you would like a vegetarian or regular meal.

Transportation

We depart on Friday afternoon at 17h00 from Place Schuman. The actual time and departure point(s) will be communicated about one week before the trip, but in principle we won’t leave before 17h00. We will be travelling with a 4* luxury bus with reclining comfort seats, foot rests, air-conditioning, an on-board toilet, and a DVD-system with at least three flat screens. Along the outbound trip way you will be served some drinks and snacks (waffles, candy bars).

Accommodation

For this trip we arranged a super-good 4* hotel, namely the Best Western Plus Hôtel Le Rhénan. The “Plus” means it belongs to the top of the BW hotel chain, and the high ratings reflect that (9.0!!). It is located on the wine route near Molsheim, known for the production of the world’s most exclusive car, the Bugatti. Every room features modern furnishings, has a flat-screen TV and coffee/tea. The bathrooms are fitted with a great shower and a hairdryer. A buffet breakfast is served on Saturday and Sunday mornings, and is of course included in the price of the trip.

In this hotel you can choose between the following rooms:

✅ Single room – One large bed
✅ Double room – One large bed for a couple or adult & child
✅ Twin room – Two single beds for 2 friends sharing
✅ Twin room – Two single beds for solo travellers who would like to share a room
✅ Family room – For 3 or 4 friends sharing, or for a family with 3 or 4 people

Room options for solo travellers
If you travel alone you either opt for a single room, but a surcharge applies (price visible once you reserve your spot). You can avoid the single room surcharge by sharing a “twin room” with 2 single beds. For this trip we offer ONLY female sharing room. During the outbound trip we introduce you to all other ladies group who also want to share a room, and you mutually agree with whom you’d like to share the room. So you will never have to search for a room partner yourself, and do not have to worry about having to pay a solo surcharge. Since our participants are all adults, there is always a kind person to share the room with. It is a perfect way to lower your costs and to meet another friendly expat.

  • If you do not find a room partner on your own, we will find one for you (female/female). During the outbound trip we will connect you with others in the same position. If you book this option, you are never forced to pay for a single room, unless you decide to take a single room during the trip. A change to a single room before the trip after booking a twin shared room is always at request.
  • Although wine is a key “ingredient” of this trip, we would like to stress that these two days are not meant to get us drunk. Tasting various wines is of course more than suggested, but getting drunk is not appreciated and accepted. Expat Club likes to welcome a variety of people on its trips, including children, and everybody should feel welcome and comfortable.
