– Â Go straight ahead until it’s not possible anymore.
– Â Turn left.
– Â The Delirium Monasterium, the part of the Delirium Village where our tasting is held, is right in front fo you on the right side of the street.
Delirium Monasterium
Nestled in a cul-de-sac just a stone’s throw from Brussels Grand Place, the Delirium Village with 8 bars awaits your visit. Delirium Monasterium is one of them! This bar is dedicated to Trappist monks’ beers and vodka. Beers brewed by Trappist monks from Western Europe are associated with vodkas distilled by monks from Eastern Europe. We chose to introduce you to the ancestral tradition and history of Trappist beers! (source: www.deliriumvillage.com)
Trappist beers are made in a brewery located within an abbey, under the control of Trappist monks. Part of the profits generated by the sales of Trappist beers is devoted to life in the abbey, such as the maintenance of the infrastructure. The rest is donated to charities or associations to boost the social and cultural development of the region.
These beers usually have a higher alcohol content (6 to 12%) and a very different taste. One of them, the Westvleteren 12, has been awarded as the “best beer in the world” by the influential American website RateBeer.com.
There are only 12 Trappist beers worldwide and 6 of them are from Belgium!
During our private tasting, you will have to opportunity to taste some beers (that is quite obvious, isn’t it?), but you will also be amongst the lucky ones to discover its history thanks to our lovely bartender! You will be introduced to Trappist beers’ general history and have an introduction to all breweries creating famous Trappist beers. The bartender will also be able to answer all the questions you might have and to share his experience and advice when it comes to beer!
