Update Friday evening: You can still join this trip. Just book and you will get an instant confirmation. Meeting time is at 08h45 at Place Schuman. For more information, don’t hesitate to start a chat (lower right) or call 0495-345144.

After many trips in 2013-2016, and already 3 great trips in 2017, we are now offering a FINAL day out to the magnificent Keukenhof. This year we are offering you an additional service, namely a lovely cycling trip through famous the Dutch flower fields, eventually all the way to the Dutch coast. Just choose what you want: the Keukenhof with a guided tour, or a cycling tour with the Keukenhof! You can also add a boat tour in the afternoon.

The Keukenhof is only open for 8 weeks per year between mid March and mid May and receives over one million visitors in that period, so on average about 14.000 per day! The Keukenhof is truly world-famous as tourists come from all over the globe to visit this unique presentation of flowers. This is picture postcard Holland at its very best! So don’t forget your camera!

Cycle through the famous tulip fields

Over 7 million bulbs in countless varieties are planted in the fall. The flowers are actually from dozens of exhibitors who want to show their latest colours and shapes. While walking through the park you can see which what company the flowers belong to. In the Keukenhof bulbs are planted in vertical layers, so the wide variety of flowers bloom in different periods. It’s an ingenious simple solution to ensure there are always many flowers to enjoy.

The two formulas
Upon arrival at the park you can choose between two different formulas. First, you can join us immediately into the park and enjoy a one-hour guided tour with an official Keukenhof guide. This is the best way to learn much more about flowers (especially the tulip), the park and the Dutch flower industry. You will be welcomed by original happy Dutch organ music after which the guide shows you a few of the nicest spots of the park. Afterwards, you are free to explore the Keukenhof on your own or in smaller groups. There are several restaurants to get your lunch. Just take your time and enjoy. Second, you can postpone your entry in the park with a few hours and enjoy a lovely cycling tour around the Keukenhof. You will receive a professionally maintained bicycle that is adapted to your own height. You can either cycle alone or in smaller groups, or eventually with one big group (the more, the merrier). There are various routes that are indicated clearly on a map you receive at the bicycle station. If you really love cycling, why not go all the way to the beach and have lunch there? Along the way there are many flower fields, so be ready to shoot fantastic pictures.

You can select your preferred formula during the checkout process. Note, there is a €5 surcharge for the cycling tour. If you later want to change, no problem, just send us an email and we’ll change it for you.

Since we are coming to the Keukenhof in the tulip season, we can see the endless colourful fields outside the park. We know Holland, so we don’t take the regular routes indicated on the highway. Instead, we take a smaller road that leads us along several fields. Inside the park there are many other flowers on display as well, both outside and inside the several large pavilions. They are simply phenomenal.

With over 32 hectares, the Keukenhof is larger than the Cinquantennaire Park, but it doesn’t have large open spaces. It boasts countless flower beds, exposition centres, ponds, a labyrinth, hills, a windmill and other cute little gardens. The variety is so big that you require a map to navigate through it and not to get lost (click here or on the image to download it).

Don’t forget your cameras to capture the amazing colours and shapes!  Flowers are one of the most beautiful things our planet has to offer, and the sheer abundance and variety of the Keukenhof will leave an indelible impression.

Boat tours
If you feel like it, you can buy a ticket for the whisper boat tour on the spot. Normally we organise this tour as Expat Club, but our most recent visit on 1 May showed that too many fields are already “green”, meaning that the flowers have been cut off already (to save energy from going to the flower instead of the bulb, which is the part that sells). It is still a very nice ride through the fields though and the advantage is that the tour is now longer than usual to show you more fields that are still colourful.

The trip itself
We depart from Place Schuman at 09h00 with a comfortable 4* luxury coach (on-board toilet, DVD/TV, AC, comfort seats, extra leg space). Travelling together is a great way to get to know other people, while you can enjoy the scenery and on-board entertainment. Complimentary snacks and drinks are included!

We will again leave around 18h00, so we have plenty of time to visit all parts of the Keukenhof and explore the various exhibitions with smaller groups or individually. Our return time in Brussels is foreseen at 20h30.

Some final remarks:

  • Please be respectful and don’t enter the fields, unless the farmer is there and allows you to do so. The biggest problem is namely that you may take with you certain diseases that can threaten the entire crop.
  • It goes without saying that the blooming status of the flowers depends to a large extent on the weather conditions, during the day and in the weeks/months before our visit.
  • Most of the above pictures’ copyrights belong to the Keukenhof.
  • If you join the cycling tour, note that it is self-guided and that you are fully responsible yourself for damage to the bike, your own safety and getting back on time.
