THIS TRIP IS CONFIRMED AND WILL TAKE PLACE
DESPITE THE LOW NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS WE ARE GOING TO MAKE IT AN AWESOME DAY.

The city of Lille is a true gem in Northern France. Yet it remains unexplored for many of us from Brussels. The TGV to Paris and the Eurostar to London stop here, but rarely do people get out to discover the beauty of the fourth-largest metropolitan area in France.

We depart from Place Schuman at 9h00 with a 4* luxury bus. Enjoy the comfort seats with extra leg space. The bus has an on-board toilet, DVD-system with several flat screens and air-conditioning. We’ll serve you a drink and some snacks during our trip to Lille.

We arrive around 11h00 and start with a professionally guided tour by bus and by foot. We discover the city’s main areas and its the most charming district of Old Lille, as well as its major monuments, such as the Palais Rihour, the Opera House, the beautiful Cathedral of the Notre-Dame de la Treille, the Chambre of Commerce, the Vieille Bourse and of course the Main Square.

Immediately after the guided tour we have lunch in a typical local “Estaminet” restaurant that serves great local dishes for affordable prices. Joining us is optional, but of course this is a great way to further socialize and talk about the beauty of the city. We all have to eat, so why not do it in good company!

After lunch the group splits up into smaller groups. There are many things to do in Lille, but we suggest two of them. First, Lille houses the second largest general-interest museum in France after the Louvre, the Palais des Beaux-Arts.

In this 19th century monumental building you’ll find a prestigious collection of paintings (Rubens, Goya, Delacroix, Van Dyck, David, Courbet, Puvis de Chavannes), as well as a large collection of drawings and a sculpture gallery. The entrance fee is about €6,50.

Second, the free Citadelle Park and Zoo are a must-see. In this park you can find the famous Citadelle that was designed by Vauban (no entry possible unfortunately as it is occupied by the military) and a lovely small zoo (free!!) that houses over 70 species of animals, including a white rhino, tiny tamarin monkeys and great gibbons as well as beautiful red pandas and a range of other animals.

Another great attraction of the city is the 104 meter high Belfry. You can ascend this remarkable tower (100 steps + elevator) to get a spectacular view over the city. During the final part of our visit we’ll meet in a nice bar to drink a nice cold beer or a good glass of wine, before we return to Brussels.  We will be back by 21h00 approximately.
