Do you know what to do when a family member, friend, colleague or a complete stranger on the street suffers from a cardiac arrest? CPR or cardiopulmonary resuscitation is a lifesaving technique that can be applied in emergency situations. The difference between doing something and doing nothing at all could be someone’s life. Expat Club therefore offers a full evening course in English on CPR and the use of a defibrillator in collaboration with the Flemish Red Cross. After completion of the course and a practical exam you will receive an official certificate that is valid for 5 years.

We are also organising a Red Cross First-Aid course on Monday 23 September ≫

Overview

Who can join?

Expat Club events are attended by singles, couples, retirees, groups of friends or colleagues, and families (minimum age for this event is 18 years). We welcome people from all over the world with a wide variety of backgrounds. Expat Club Membership is not required to join this training.

Do I need any previous experience?

You are not required to have any previous knowledge or skills. This training is for everyone. We can also strongly recommend taking the First Aid course that we regularly offer with the Red Cross. The first one is the week before, on Monday 23 September.

Where is it held?

We are meeting in the Expat Club offices in The Louise Center on Avenue Louise 279. You are welcome from 18h15, but we actually start at 18h30. Trams 8 and 93 stop at 1 minute walking (stop Vleurgat), but you can also take bus 38 and 60 (stop Louise). It is just a 5 to 8 minute walking from trams 7 and 81 (stops Louise), and bus 54. The Louise Center is the big building above the Carrefour (entrance 50 meters on right).

Are discounts available?

We offer a discount of €15 to students (all levels, including post-docs), officially registered unemployed people (not for expat spouses), and those on welfare. Send us an email at info@expatclub.org.

Get reimbursed

Your official Red Cross certificate is also valid for the company or organisation you work at. Ask you HR Department about the possibility to get partially or fully reimbursed for this course.

The CPR course

During this 4-hours course you will learn the potentially life-saving technique of resuscitation. This is a specialised course that finishes with an official exam that is valid for your professional environment. This training teaches you how to resuscitate (“reanimation” in French) and how to use a defibrillator. This is a hands-on course that will not only provide theory, but also requires you to practice a lot with the objective of preparing you for the official exam at the end of the course. If you pass the exam you will obtain an official Red Cross certificate that is valid for 5 years.

During the training we’ll go over and practice the 4 steps of how to approach a casualty: safety, approach casualty, correctly alarming the emergency services and first aid, control of consciousness and breathing and to place the casualty in a stabile sideways position. The technique of resuscitation (reanimation) will be discussed in-depth and practiced. Our instructor will also pay specific attention to the use of an AED (automated external defibrillator) that can be found in many public places.
