Imagine if something happens to a member of your family or a colleague, would you know what to do? What should you do when a child, your spouse or a friend becomes badly wounded? Can you take care of it yourself? Do you know how to secure the environment, so you can keep both yourself and the casualty safe? And would you know when to call a doctor, visit a hospital or call an ambulance?

Expat Club wants to positively contribute to the lives of expats in Brussels and to the wider local community. We often organise events that you would probably not do on your own, not in the least place because you may not speak Flemish or French. This event is one of them! Learn what to do in an emergency situation or in case there is an accident in and around the house, your office environment, in a public place or the sports club. This initiation course is a good way to increase your knowledge and self confidence when an emergency situation requires your immediate attention. An official trainer from the Flemish Red Cross will teach us the basics in English with a group of other expats in our office building on Avenue Louise. During this 3-hours course you will learn what you can do yourself, and when you should get professional help.

We are also organising a Red Cross CPR course on Monday 30 September ≫

Overview

Who can join?

Expat Club events are attended by singles, couples, retirees, groups of friends or colleagues, and families (minimum age for this event is 18 years). We welcome people from all over the world with a wide variety of backgrounds. Expat Club Membership is not required to join this training.

Do I need any previous experience?

You are not required to have any previous knowledge or skills. This training is for everyone. We can also strongly recommend taking the Red Cross CPR course that we regularly offer. The first one is on Monday 30 September.

Where is it held?

We are meeting in the Expat Club offices in The Louise Center on Avenue Louise 279. You are welcome from 18h45, but we actually start at 19h00. Trams 8 and 94 stop at 1 minute walking (stop Vleurgat), but you can also take bus 38 and 60 (stop Louise). It is just a 5 to 8 minute walking from trams 7 and 81 (stops Louise), and bus 54. The Louise Center is the big building above the Carrefour (entrance 50 meters on right).

Are discounts available?

We offer a discount of €15 to students (all levels, including post-docs), officially registered unemployed people (not for expat spouses), and those on welfare. Send us an email at info@expatclub.org.

First-aid course

At Expat Club we believe it is important for people to be able to help one another.  Therefore we will host official Red Cross training sessions to teach our members the skills they need to be able to help others if necessary.  With the Belgian Red Cross-Flanders, you are guaranteed expertise and experience. During this session you will learn the basics of first-aid. After finishing you will be issued a certificate of attendance. Please note that you will not learn the CPR-technique. For that we organise a separate course.

Red Cross Flanders

We are an independent volunteer organisation. Under the umbrella of the Belgian Red Cross, we are part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Our mission is threefold: to defend the interests of vulnerable people both at home and abroad, to be proactive in emergency-management, promoting self-reliance and organising blood supply, and to care for vulnerable individuals. In all our activities, we rely heavily on volunteers.” (source: Red Cross Flanders website).

Location

We are meeting in the Expat Club offices in The Louise Center on Avenue Louise 279. You are welcome from 18h45, but we actually start at 19h00. Trams 8 and 94, bus 38 and 60, Vleurgat/Louise stop. And just a 5-8 minutes walking from tram 7 and 81, and bus 54 if you get off at Avenue Louise. The entrance is right across the tram stop.

We advise you to eat something beforehand, but there are various restaurants on Louise and Vleurgat. We do offer coffee/tea, drinks and snacks (waffles, chocolate bars) during the event, but this is not a substitute for diner.
