Now it is our great pleasure to welcome you on board our luxury coach and join us to yet another amazing destination. With a whopping 4,5 score on TripAdvisor and at about 50km from Amsterdam on the Dutch coast, the Space Expo is Europe’s best place to learn everything about space exploration.*

The Space Expo is the official visitors center of the European Space Agency’s (ESA) European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC), which is its main technology development and test centre for spacecraft and space technology. It is situated in Noordwijk on the Dutch coast, at about 50km from Amsterdam.

The Space Expo itself is Europe’s first permanent space exhibition. What can you expect?

  • See what it was like for the first men on the Moon.
  • Experience the simulated launch of an Ariane rocket ‘live’.
  • Discover the world of satellites with the test models of European space missions.
  • Find out all about astronauts and see how they live and work in space.

We depart only at 9h00 from Place Schuman by luxury 4* coach with on-board toilet, personal TVs, air-conditioning and comfort chairs with extra leg space. Along the way we will provide you with some drinks and snacks and of course the free Expats in Brussels guide that is full of handy information for expats.

Upon arrival we enjoy a 1 hour professionally guided tour through the exhibition. Our guides will tell us about the history of space exploration and current research. Afterwards you will have plenty of time to discover the Space Expo on your own. There is a restaurant where you can relax, have lunch or come back for a tea or coffee.

In the mid afternoon we also organised a 1 hour private visit to ESTEC for you. We travel there in two groups by mini train. At ESTEC, about 2500 engineers, technicians and scientists work hands-on with mission design, spacecraft and space technology.

ESTEC provides extensive testing facilities to verify the proper operation of spacecraft, such as the Large Space Simulator (LSS), acoustic and electromagnetic testing bays, multi-axis vibration tables and the ESA Propulsion Laboratory (EPL). Prior to launch, almost all of the equipment that ESA launches is tested in some degree at ESTEC (source: Wikipedia).

After our visit to the Space Expo and ESTEC we will take a short ride (or walk) to the lovely beach town of Noordwijk. It may be end of January, and not exactly the time for a swim, but a nice stroll on the beach or the boulevard may complete our trip. Needless to say we will find a nice spot for a hot drink or an afternoon snack before we return to Brussels with our super comfortable luxury bus.

* You cannot compare the Space Expo with the European Space Center along the Brussels-Luxembourg highway or the recent Space exposition in Brussels. This is the official and permanent exhibition from the official European Space Agency that is directly linked to the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC).
