Expat Club is proud to announce exclusive and high-quality wine appreciation workshops. Under the guidance of a licensed wine expert from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET), the world’s foremost international institution in wine and spirits education, we are going to discover a wide variety of wines over several sessions. Each session is dedicated to a specific country, region, grape or theme. You can register for individual or multiple sessions.

Wednesday 27 September – Great sparkling wines
Some Cava & Prosecco are a good alternatives for Champagne, others aren’t. We will explain the essentials about the most common sparklings in the world in relation to quality and price. And at the end of the session you will be able to choose the right sparkling wine for the right occasion. Discover some excellent sparkling wines under 25 Euro.

Wednesday 25 October – Chardonnay & pinot noir from around the world
Wines made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are very popular amongst winer lovers. Bourgogne is renowned for producing the most refined and delicate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines in the world. But what about the other regions in the world which are producing top wines from these grapes? In this session we will compare Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the “Old” versus “New World”.

Wednesday 29 November – Surprisingly Italy
Discover the unknown and rare varieties from Italy. This major wine country has much more to offer than Chianti, Barolo and Brunello di Montalcino. No country has more authentic grape varieties than Italy. This is what makes Italy a very fascinating wine making country. But how to find your way amongst all this varieties? In this class we will guide you find out which kind of Italian wine style fits to your personal preference.

Wednesday 13 December – Riesling: from bone dry to sweet
How much do you know about the wine lovers’ coveted white grape? No grape has more faces than Riesling. Germany is the bench mark for Riesling wines. But Rieslings from Austria, France and Australia deserve their place on the Riesling wine market. Apart from different origins we will taste Riesling made in a very dry style to the famous rich sweet style.

Smell the tradition and quality

During each session we typically taste 7 to 9 different wines in various price ranges, including great buys and very high quality. Each and every bottle is carefully selected by our WSET partner to ensure you can optimally taste the wine’s characteristics and compare them with other wines. Put differently, you will only be served high quality wines. This is a serious appreciation course that lasts for about 2,5 hours. Of course having fun and socialising is part of the deal, but the main objective is to truly better understand and learn to appreciate the wines that we’re tasting.

During these workshops our instructor will explain various aspects of the wines we will taste and the theme of the evening. This is not just an introduction comparable to regular tasting events that you find all over town. These workshop are truly about educate us on a variety of aspects. Expect theory, pictures, and videos, and you should be prepared to take notes and fully use your senses.

 


About the WSET

The Wine and Spirit Education Trust provides best-in-class education and qualifications to inspire and empower the world’s wine and spirits professionals and enthusiasts. We currently offer nine qualifications covering wines, spirits and sake. WSET qualifications are globally recognised as the international standard in wine and spirit knowledge. They are designed for those who are just starting out in their careers, as well as established professionals, and the many enthusiasts who have a passion for wines and spirits.

How to register?
We need to know how many people are coming to prepare the rooms, so you must book in advance. If you cannot join anymore, you can cancel up to 48 hours in advance and you will receive credit for another session or you can use the fee for one of our trips.

Location
We are meeting in the Expat Club offices in The Louise Center on Avenue Louise 279. You are welcome from 19h00, but we actually start at 19h30. Trams 93 and 94, bus 38 and 60, Vleurgat/Louise stop. And just a 5-8 minutes walking from tram 7 and 81, and bus 54 if you get off at Avenue Louise. The entrance is right across the tramstop.
