Visiting the world's largest museum's little sister in Northern France on a Sunday afternoon is an absolute delight
The Battle of the Bulge at the end of WWII was one of the fiercest battles in history. The Belgian town of Bastogne was as one of the key places the Germans wanted to recapture on their way to the Antwerp Harbor. They were stopped by the Americans.
After a first trip in Spring 2017, we have organised another trip to the lovely Alsace region in Eastern France, with cities like Colmar and lovely villages surrounded with vineyards.
The world's largest Volksfest is all about celebrating a good time with good friends and family and amazing food and beer!

A first-time trip to the beautiful Pierrefonds Castle and the medieval city of Laon. We also visited the Glade of the Armistice close to Compiègne.
Our very first trip to the magnificent historic city of Delft in The Netherlands. With a visit to the Royal Delft porcelain factory, the Old and the New Church as well as the Vermeer Centre, it was a superb day out to Holland.

Every year we travel once or twice to the beautiful Opal Coast. This coast line runs from the Belgian-French border all the way to Dieppe. Our route takes us along Dunkirk, Gravelines, Calais, Sangatte, Cap Blanc Nez, Wissant, Cap Griz Nez, Wimereux and finally Boulogne sur Mer.
One of Holland's nicest little villages. The stunning thatch-roofed farmhouses are primarily connected by waterways are bridges. We also drove through Schokland, the first UNESCO-sight in the country, and visited the fishing town of Urk, an island in the former Southern Sea (the big lake used to be sea!).
The 7th edition of our annual trip to Luxembourg City, with visits to Plateau Kirchberg, the Old Town, and the Casemates.
Visiting Mont Saint-Michel should only be done with a super high tide, and that's exactly what we've done again.
Our annual stargazing trip was again a big success. A fully booked bus of enthusiast expats travelled to the Ardennes to count countless shooting stars, and enjoy a well-deserved BBQ.
Our second trip to Switzerland again led us by amazing waterfalls, luxurious cities, green valleys, clear blue lakes, steep cliffs, cow-rich hills, hairpin mountain passes and the highest snow-covered tops. What a trip!

Our annual trip to the iconic White Cliffs of Dover led us to England's oldest castle (Dover Castle), to the historic Walmer Castle and the city of Deal. About a dozen walked the distance to this lovely coastal town.
One of Holland's most stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site's: the Kinderdijk Windmills. Not less than 19 beautiful mills keep the polders dry for almost 300 years.

On the 6th of June 1944 Allied Forces landed in great numbers on the beaches of Normandy. D-Day was only the first day of the Battle of Normandy, but shall always be remembered as the day the liberation of Europe began. This 4-day trip was dedicated to those who gave their lives for Europe's freedom.

Just a little bit too cold for most, but the park was in superb condition. The Keukenhof is the world's most beautiful flower park.
The Expat Club signature trip to the beautiful Champagne region is also back on our 2019 calendar. Travelling with a brand new bus, it was again a big success. Great group, great atmosphere, and many boxes and bottles of bubbly taken back to Brussels.

A weekend trip by overnight ferry cruise to York in Northern England. With the large York Minster Cathedral it is the best Christmas destination in England.

What an amazing evening. Pictures were taken around 20h30, but it was the start of a great evening. Our hosts at the Observatory in the Ardennes gave an interesting presentation in their small planetarium, they walked us around the premises, and last but not least to explained what the PERFECT night sky disclosed to us that evening, including dozens of shooting stars!

The most spectacular day of the year. The Belgian Air Force Days were anything but just Belgian. Many international teams gave act de presence, including the Dutch, Brits, Turks, French, Italians, Swiss, Jordans and many many more.
Expat Club yearly organises a trip to Trier, the oldest city in Germany that is full of Roman traces, followed by a tour along the Moselle river (with wine tasting!).
An afternoon trip to Han-sur-Less with its amazing caves system, followed by a visit to Durbuy.

2013-07-06 Daytrip Bouillon & Kayaking
On Saturday 6 July a fun group of expats went to the medieval town of Bouillon. We visited the impressive 1,200 years old castle, saw a birds of prey show and peddled down the Semois river. The weather was absolutely perfect, with lots of sunshine, some clouds and 26 degrees. A small group stayed in town to visit the Ducal Museum, the Godfrey the Bouillon Archéoscope and a small boat ride on the river Semois.

An afternoon and evening to watch a fascinating movie about the stars in Brussels Planetarium, followed by a nice get together in a bar in Grimbergen, before being welcomed at the Public Observatory to actually see some celestial objects through a professional telescope.

A full day trip to the beautiful medieval town of Ypres and its surroundings, which was one of the major battlefields grounds during the First World War.
Another trip to the amazing Mont Saint-Michel in Normandy. Again when the tides are highest 🙂 . We also visited Étretat, Caen, Bayeux, Deauville and Honfleur.
Expat Club spent a nice day out in the picturesque German city Monschau. We'll be back here for the Christmas markets.

We visited the Musée d'Ixelles with a large group of expats on Wednesday evening 26 June. This evening the museum was open ot the public to see the new exhibitions Chat Noir and Mig Quinet.

Expat Club explored the lovely city of Luxembourg. With its historic centre, the international vibe and beautiful green parks it is a perfect destination for a one day trip.
A great day out on the North Sea. Unfortunately the day started with too much rain, but it was part of the experience as we were treated to perfect weather in the afternoon.
Our 4th daytrip to the Champagne. With a group of about 75 people we explored Épernay, Hautvillers and Reims, visiting various Champagne houses, enjoying a superb lunch and had a lot of fun.

Maybe not the best pictures, but it was great to meet with the Finnish Director Aku Louhimies of the movie 8-ball after the movie.
2013-05-12 La Monnaie
On a nice Sunday afternoon we visited La Monnaie Opera House in the centre of Brussels with a group of over 30 expats. After a guided tour through the builiding we returned to the bar for a nice drink.
On this beautiful day we visited the old zoo of Antwerp, right next to the city's Central Station. We did not only walk by all the animals in the public area, but we also enjoyed an exclusive and private backstage tour that took us along the residences of the sea lions, the tigers and lions, as well as the vet station and many other special places.
A nice and relaxed day in Luxembourg. We made a tour through the city by bus and foot with two professional guides and visited the opulent Ducal Palace that was privately opened for Expat Club.
The already infamous "snow" day in Brussels. Still, the day in the Hallerbos was surprisingly good withs lots of sunshine in the afternoon.
West Flanders is a region we keep going back to due to its importance for Belgian and European history.
A fantastic weekend trip to the Capitale of Noël Strasbourg. Staying in a beautiful 4 star hotel in the middle of the center we enjoyed our time greatly.

On this sunny Saturday a luxurious 4* coach brought us to the ultra modern Louvre museum in Lens, the impressive Canadian National Vimy Memorial and the town of Arras, where we visited the equally impressive Wellington Quarry.

Expat Club visited the hypermodern Tesla assembly plant in Tilburg on Belgian's national holiday. What an amazing visit, what an amazing torque and what an amazing car!
On this beautiful Saturday Expat Club went to Bastogne, a town in the Ardennes that was successfully defended by the Americans during the bitter cold winter of 1944-45. This battle is depicted in Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks their TV series Band of Brothers.

On Sunday 28 July 2013 Expat Club Brussels went with a large group of fun expats to the final stretch of the Lesse river close to Dinant. The weather was perfect, the water was warm enough not to freeze several people who fell into the water, and our lunch and drink afterward were great.

One can keep coming back to Paris, and that's certainly what we had in mind when we met early in the morning at Place Schuman and Midi station. It was a cold but very beautiful day (first day of the winter). With about 40 participants we did a variety of things. Lunch in the superb restaurant Boeuf sur le Toit, a visit to the exquisite Musée d'Orsay and a boat tour on the Seine river. Some of us climbed the Eiffel Tower, whereas others visited Quartier Latin, Montmartre and the Champs-Elysées area.
Our third trip this year to the magnificent Champagne region. With the yellow, orange and brown colors the vineyards were like an impressionist painting. Thanks for the photos Tomasz.

On Sunday morning a group of almost 40 enthusiastic walkers joined for the first edition of the Brussels Ramble (= a nice walk for pleasure). We walked all the way through the Bois de La Cambre and into the Foret Soignes. Our trip took about 2h10, so we did burn some calories and therefore treated ourselves to a nice lunch at the Lebanese Restaurant O Liban.

2013-12-15 Düsseldorf Christmas Market
For this daytrip on Sunday 15 December we went with two full luxury coaches to the capital of North Rhein Westphalia. Düsseldor was full of Christmas Markets. After a 1,5 hours guided tour through the old town, we gathered in a typical local restaurant for a great lunch (figuratively ánd literally). In the afternoon we spread over town to explore the various markets, shopping districts and other highlights, such as the 240 meter high Rheinturm. We closed the day with Glühwein and Schnapps.

On Saturday 15 June Expat Club Brussels traveled with a group of 39 people to Dinant by train. We visited the cave La Merveilleuse, the impressive citadel that towers 100 meter above the city and we made a nice sunshiny boattrip on the river La Meusse.

A great trip with beautiful weather and two huge surprises: the world's largest ship and not only the old SS Rotterdam, but also the new MS Rotterdam was in Rotterdam and departing for its next destination right when we came back from the harbor tour. We spent a wonderful afternoon in the superb Louvre-Lens Museum in Louvre, Northern France. It may be the little sister from the Parisian Louvre, but the museum scored a perfect 10 with our members.

As one of the participants said "How often do you get the chance of going to a nuclear power plant!" A large group of Expat Club members had the chance on this beautiful Saturday. Besides a long and fascinating presentation three smaller groups were guided around by experts (and escorted by a personal security guard) after we went through not less than 4 security checks (besides having been pre-screened the weeks before). Wow, and those cooling towers are just so impressive with their 175 meters altitude (height would be not the proper word anymore).

The oldest city in the Netherlands can be found all the way in the South. What a great day with cave visits, a fun and great guided tour and a superb lunch. A city to come back to!

Expat Club visited to top museums in the city of Roubaix: La Manufacture that is fully dedicated to textiles and the magnificent La Pascine fine arts museum in a beautiful early 20th century art-deco swimming pool.

Expat Club travelled to 20 meters away from the most dangerous spot on Earth, the melted core of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Besides visiting the village of Chernobyl and the city of Pripyat, we had the super unique opportunity to travel into the very heart of power plant: Control Room #4. So many things went wrong here on 26 April 1986

2013-11-10 Backstage Tour Antwerp Zoo
On 10 November a relatively small but super fun group of people went to Antwerp for a visit to its historic zoo. Not only did we have the chance to look at the 5,000 animals from behind the gates, but we also enjoyed an exclusive backstage tour that took us along the private residences of the tigers, lions and sealions. Moreover, we visited the veterinarian station, learned all about food preparation (e.g. we saw thousands of crickets) and conservation efforts, and had the chance to see some creepy-crawlers from up close. Despite the low temperatures, we were lucky we left all the precipitation behind us in Brussels. We finished the day in a nice bar and returned to Brussels with some great memories.

Expat Club went on a full daytrip to Bastogne where one of the fiercest battles took place during the final days of the Second World War. It was a very impressive day.
Lovely Christmas market trip to Aachen, the city of Charlemagne
On Saturday 31 August a group of 25 fun expats went to see the beautiful little city of Luxembourg. We made a city trip by bus, visited the UNESCO-protected casemates, the governmental districts and the Ducal Palace. Of course we had lunch, enjoyed a nice (bubbly) drink, and closed the day with dinner, before heading back to Brussels.
Venice is arguably the most beautiful city in the world. And Expat Club explored it all during the Redentore weekend!

2013-07-17 Charity Talk on Memory
Our first Charity Talk was on Memory and given by Dr. Charlie Stone. There were more questions than time allowed. Mr. Wilfried Nys, Chairman of the Alzheimer Research Foundation, gave a short overview of the current status of research on this disease. Almost €200 was donated by the participants to the foundation.

What a great time we had during these 3 days of Normandy, with visits to Etretat, Mont Saint-Michel and the D-Day landing beaches.
On this Saturday afternoon a small group of members visited the magnificent Autoworld museum with over 250 beautiful cars spanning 100 years of automobile history. Expat Club arranged a professional guide who told us all about this superb collection owned by Ghislain Mahy (1907-1999).

Today we made a private visit to the exquisite Van Buuren Museum in Uccle. Not less than 40 members had the chance to discover this beautiful Art Deco house with a professional guide.

Expat Club visited Antwerp for a day on street art. Unfortunately our guided tour was cancelled due to illness of the guide, but the visit to Banksy was great!
We spent a full day at Versailes, the historic palace that was built by Louis XIV. The opulence in this 700-room palace is just unending.

Despite the forecasts predicting rain, it was a wonderful sunny day. About 25 people (and a little dog) joined us for a great walk though the parks of the Woluwes. We ended the day with a nice picnic in Parc Cinquantenaire.

Not less than 33 smart people battled for fame and fortune (a free drink/meal) at De Valeras Irish Pub on Place Flagey.
On Saturday 7 September a group of almost 20 expats went to Dinant, a beautiful little town about 1,5 hours by train from Brussels. We visited the La Merveilleuse cave, the centuries old citadel and made a boat tour on the Meusse river. Most of us closed the day at the Leffe beer museum and tasted 3 great Leffe beers.
A fantastic sailing day with Expat Club at the North Sea near Oostend. Beautiful boat!

This was the first trip of Expat Club Brussels to the impressive 250+ years old windmills of Kinderdijk and the magnificent Keukenhof Flower Gardens. Over 20 people joined this tour and we'll certainly go again next year!
2013-09-13 Pink Floyd Tribute Concert
For the Grand Opening of Brussels' brand-new concert hall a group of several dozens international minds met early evening close the Heysel/Heizel Metro and enjoyed a spectacular live show by the Australian Pink Floyd, the world's best tribute band. The Aussie Pink Floyd sang the best songs, including the entire Dark Side of the Moon Album (- "Us and Them" unfortunately), Another Brick in the Wall, Comfortably Numb, Wish You Were Here and Run Like Hell. The show lasted for 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Unfortunately only few pictures were taken, primarily due to the fact that photography inside the factory is forbidden. Nonetheless, it was a great visit with 85 enthusiastic people. Due to the high turnout we will certainly reorganize this trip in a few months again.
A deeply impressive full daytrip to the Verdun region, with visits to the Meuse Arganne American cemetery, the Douaumont Ossuary and Fort and the destroyed Village Fleury-devant-Douaumont.
Our 4th trip to Giverny, the small arty village that is known for the famous Claude Monet pond with waterlilies paintings.

On this splendid Sunday afternoon Expat Club visited the magnificent Van Buuren Museum in Uccle. Its history against much art and an art-deco interior guaranteed a great visit with our private guide.

For the September edition of the monthly First Tuesday event we met at la Chaloupe d'Or right on Grand Place. Not only is this one of the most beautiful buildings in Brussels, but also one of the most historic ones. We met in the exquisite Drakkar banquet hall for a nice drink.
